What is the course about?
In this course you will learn to communicate with Deaf people in BSL, at beginner level, on a range of topics using simple, everyday language.
What will we cover?
You will learn BSL communication skills relating to topic areas such as:
- Fingerspelling
- Handshapes
- Numbers
- Questions
- Family
- The Weather
- Transport and travel
- Colours
- People and how to describe them
- Days, months and seasons
We will also cover sensory awareness, Deaf culture and history of sign language and communication.
By the end of this course you should be able to:
- Understand and use a basic range of simple words in BSL
- Take part in simple conversations using BSL
- Give and understand simple descriptions in BSL
The course consists of eight 75-minute sessions which will include both theory and practical elements and an opportunity to reflect and practice what we have covered in the previous sessions.
