This summer, well known tutor Maggie Harling will be leading a series of six classes on Machine Embroidery.
Whilst every class is a standalone class, completing all six will put you in a good position to join the Saturday Stitch Group starting in September.

In this workshop you will be guided through one of the many ways of using water soluble paper. Combined with acrylic paint, and machine embroidery using straight stitching, you will be able to design and create your own colourful masterpiece.

This is an ideal workshop if you are a beginner or want to practise your free machine embroidery skills. A delicate mosaic highlighting the use of Sizoflor will form the basis of your handiwork. And just for fun we will be using a heat gun to create a little magic!

Become familiar with the effects to be achieved experimenting with the automatic stitches on your sewing machine working on water soluble film. You will start by learning how to draw a suitable design, which will then be transformed using automatic stitches to create your own unique lace sample.

From drawings of flowers to working on water soluble film, various methods of machine stitching, including free embroidery, will be the focus of this workshop. You will learn how to incorporate wire to add a 3D touch to your floral display.

The techniques covered in this workshop include folding and manipulating fabrics as well as machine and hand embroidery. Learn how to blend them all together to craft a stunning textile landscape.

In this workshop you’ll be working with various products including Iron-on-Vilene, Bondaweb and Angelina. Angelina, combined with straight and satin stitch machine embroidery, as well as some simple hand stitches and beads or sequins, will add a hint of luxury to your textile art.

Each of the classes alone cost £35, but the more you book, the more of a discount you will get, and the more free gifts you will get.

A butterfly provides the design inspiration, which working with threads, fabrics, bondaweb and wire, will take you on a journey to create your own unique sample of textile art. A step-by step demonstration will show you the hand embroidery techniques of applique and surface stitching.

This workshop will show you different basic methods of needle felting working on commercially made felt. Birds will be the design source of this project. You will learn how to adapt a picture of a bird, to make it a suitable design for the technique, and transfer it onto felt ready for felting. Choosing from the many beautiful colours of merino wool available, your design will ‘come to life’ as the day progresses.
